Different Rubber Sheet Gasket Material

  • Nitrile(Buna-N Rubber) – strong resistance against oil and gas products. The temperature ranges from -40° to +250°F.
  • Fluorocarbon Rubber – designed for chemical resistance. Temperature ranges from -20 F to +400 F.
  • EPDM Rubber – tough against ozone and UV exposure. The temperature range is -65 F to +300 F.
  • Neoprene Rubber – resistant to harsh environments and weathering. Temperature range -65o F to +250o F.
  • Red Rubber – recommended for low applications such as gaskets for plumbing and heating trades.Temperature range: – 20°F to +180°F continuous/210°F intermittent.
  • Aflas – perfect for sour gas, refrigeration, and crude oil. Temperature ranges from -20 F to +400 F (excursions to +600)

How Much Pressure Can a Rubber Gasket Sheet Withstand?

It can handle strong pressure of more than 200 psi.

Other types of rubber can handle pressure from 33 to 1800+ psi.

How Long is the Shelf Life of Rubber Gasket Sheet?

It depends on the type of material and areas where it is applied.

Natural rubber gaskets and SBR have a life span of 3-5 years.

Neoprene, EPDM, Butyl, and Nitrile recommended shelf life ranges from 5 – 10 years.

How thick is a rubber gasket sheet?

For a smooth, machined flange, 1.5 mm is a practical starting point because the thinner gasket needs less bolt travel and offers better resistance to blowout. Use about 3 mm when a low-pressure flat-face flange is larger or has measurable surface irregularity. Do not move automatically to 5 or 6 mm: specify the measured flange irregularity so the minimum thickness can be tested without excessive extrusion.

How much does a rubber gasket sheet weigh?

Calculate weight as length × width × thickness × compound density. WARCO lists its 60 Shore A M5BG 610 nitrile sheet at 2.41 lb per linear foot for a 1/8-inch × 36-inch roll, which works out to about 1,235 kg/m³. At that density, a 1 m × 2 m × 3 mm rubber gasket sheet weighs approximately 7.4 kg: 1 × 2 × 0.003 × 1,235 = 7.41. Use the approved compound’s actual density or roll-weight table because another formulation can differ materially.

Which ASTM standard should your rubber gasket sheet test report identify?

ASTM compliant is not a complete specification. For a solid elastomer sheet, the report should identify the exact ASTM D2000 material designation agreed for your compound. For example, WARCO publishes a 60 Shore A NBR sheet as M5BG 610 A14 B14 EO14 EO34 F17. Put the selected full callout and any application-specific test limits on your purchase order, then require the batch certificate to repeat the same designation and results instead of accepting a general ASTM logo or statement.
